Duluth boasts a thriving music scene of garage bands that turn into hometown favorites. Duluthians take their local music very seriously, culminating with the honor of playing in the Duluth Homegrown Festival.
One band from Chicago can also claim that right. At Wilco's Friday night show, they proudly waved an official notice from the mayor's office naming them an honorary Duluth band.
"A teenaged boy came up to us and said he was the mayor. He gave it to us. We think it is legit," Jeff Tweedy of Wilco said during the show.
Mayor Don Ness announced his plan to bestow the title to Wilco on Feb. 15 to Perfect Duluth Day, a community blog following life in Duluth.
