1010 wins

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby have announced that they will propose a measure for a scaled back and downsized version of Charles Wang’s Lighthouse project.

Wang has said publicly that he is waiting for a “yes” or “no” answer on his plan and many feel he could threaten to pull the New York Islanders from Nassau County if he doesn’t get his project as originally planned. Thus far, Wang has said only that he is keeping his options open.

Wang and real estate executive Scott Rechler proposed a vast construction project that includes a five-star hotel and a new convention center among other amenities, but council members now feel the project is too large.

The plan for the site has been in limbo for 7 years and Murray says her new proposal is designed to get the development at the Lighthouse site moving again.

Officials in Hempstead have pushed for Wang’s development group to adhere to an environmental review and complete a thorough zoning process.

Hempstead Town Council is expected to vote on considering a scaled back version of the project on Tuesday.

If the vote passes, Murray says the town will hire Frederick P. Clark Associates as consultants to develop a plan for the project that will include addressing environmental concerns and any potential negative impact to local infrastructure.
