federal government closed wednesday


According to the OPM Twitter and website the Federal Government will remain closed on Wednesday February 10, 2010 because there is a prediction by the forecasters regarding another snowstorm that is advancing towards Washington D.C., Philadelphia and New York which will add more snow to the capital of the nation. In response to the winter weather, Federal government remained close on Monday and Tuesday and it is going to be around a week since the government employees have been off work.

On the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) website a message was posted at 6:50 PM EST on Tuesday that the federal government will remain closed on Wednesday. About 230,000 federal government employees are kept in the home by the snow. After federal government will close on Wednesday, all told that the federal government would have been closed for four days. So there is no guarantee of the opening of the federal government after Wednesday however the work will go on despite the fact that the federal government will remain closed for some days. The essential services of the government are performed at the offices elsewhere in the country and about 85% of the employees work outside the region of the Washington and others are working at home.

Along with the closure of the federal government, many other offices and schools will remain close on Wednesday. In the lat six years this is the third one. Most of the flights were cancelled on Tuesday after 8 PM in Philadelphia’s airport and the flights in the Washigton DC’s airport were expected to stop at around 5 PM. West Verginia Governor Joe Manchin advised the government officials to clear the snow from the public buildings roofs as a disaster was happened in 1998 when roofs collapsed and resulted in the death of three people.
